Chapter: 14

“What a headache.”

Cheon Woo-jin groaned as he pressed his temples, reading the item information floating in front of him.

[Item Info]

Name: Unknown (Sealed)

Grade: SR

Traits: A sword imbued with the power of ■■■

Special Attributes: Indestructible, Sealed

It was the Goblin Sword, the very weapon said to symbolize the Sword Saint.

Its abilities hadn’t fully manifested due to its sealed state, but the fact that it was labeled indestructible proved it was no ordinary item.

Receiving something of this caliber would undoubtedly send shockwaves through the entire clan.

‘Cheon Oh-hyuk will start moving for real now.’

If he deemed something a threat, Cheon Oh-hyuk wouldn’t hesitate to remove it.

When, where, or how he might act—there was no telling.

The only small relief was that at least Woo-jin didn’t need to worry about poison.

"Poison Immunity" trait.

Curious whether it truly worked, Woo-jin had put it to the test.

He’d picked up various items at the recent Jeongseon auction—among them, poisons.

From synthesized toxins to venom extracted from dungeon creatures—he’d injected himself with small amounts of each.

To his surprise, none of them had any effect on his body.

He couldn’t know for certain what poison Cheon Oh-hyuk might use, but it was clear that his body was immune to all of them.

The deadliest tool in any assassination had been neutralized—yet that didn’t mean Woo-jin could relax.

Cheon Oh-hyuk’s favorite tactic was disguising eliminations as accidents.

In his past life, Seo Woo-jin had used such methods himself. He knew exactly how they worked.

‘There’s no way to predict what he’ll try—until I enter the dungeon, I have to stay alert.’

At that moment, Woo-jin sensed someone approaching from outside.

Knock knock.

Even from the knock alone, he could guess who it was.

“Come in.”

As expected, it was Chief Kim, entering as usual.

But unlike his normal demeanor, his expression was different this time.

“Young Master, I have a request.”

Chief Kim spoke in a solemn tone.

“Please spar with me.”

Woo-jin stood up immediately, almost as if he’d been waiting for this.

“Gladly. Let’s go.”

The two of them headed straight for the training hall.

Now more or less Woo-jin’s personal domain, the room was filled with deep sword scars across its surfaces.

It was Chief Kim’s first time inside. His eyes widened briefly as he saw the marks carved into the walls, though he quickly returned to his usual calm.

“You never fail to surprise me.”

“That’s not exactly my intention.”

At Woo-jin’s reply, Chief Kim didn’t answer. Instead, he raised both empty hands.

Seeing that he didn’t draw a sword, Woo-jin tilted his head in puzzlement.

Then Chief Kim took off his sunglasses and spoke.

“My swordsmanship doesn’t belong to any particular school—it’s rather unconventional.”

Woo-jin frowned slightly at that.

‘Unconventional swordsmanship...’

He recalled a past moment—when Chief Kim had drawn a sword from his inventory so quickly he hadn’t even noticed when it happened.

Based on that alone, Woo-jin could infer what kind of style it was.

‘Quickdraw-type?’

A style that involved drawing the weapon from the inventory like a fast draw, then immediately launching an attack.

He had met Hunters who used similar swordplay in his past life—though most were all style and no substance.

But this was Chief Kim, a Hunter from the Heavenly Sword House—he wouldn't use such a style just to look cool.

‘He’s trying to show me his sword—this must be his way of testing me.’

A personal evaluation—his way of assessing Woo-jin properly.

Woo-jin drew the Goblin Sword he’d received from the Clan Head.

Wuuuuuummm—!

The moment it entered his grasp, the Goblin Sword rang out with a clear sword cry.

What was interesting was that it weighed exactly the same as the Nameless Sword the Clan Head had given him before.

‘Even this must’ve been part of the Clan Head’s plan.’

Holding the sword with practiced familiarity, Woo-jin looked at Chief Kim.

“I’m ready.”

One armed with the Goblin Sword, the other with empty hands—yet they stood face to face, tension crackling in the air between them.

The moment was taut—and then Woo-jin’s body vanished.

Swish!

Using Ghost Shadow Step, he advanced like a phantom.

The Clan Head had witnessed this technique—but experiencing it firsthand was something else entirely.

It was as if Woo-jin’s presence and form had never been there at all.

Chief Kim drew mana from his core and activated a mana barrier.

Wuuuuummmm—!

A powerful force field expanded around him in a circular zone.

While maintaining the barrier, he stood calm, awaiting Woo-jin’s strike.

Then—a presence surged from behind.

Spinning, Chief Kim instantly pulled a sword from his inventory and used the momentum to slash in a counterattack.

Shhhrrrrrk!

Just as Woo-jin had guessed—an incredible quickdraw strike flew like a flash toward the presence.

Fwoooosh!

But the strike embedded itself in the opposite wall.

The presence had already moved—Woo-jin had sidestepped into Kim’s blind spot and aimed for his flank.

It was the same strike he’d once used against the Clan Head.

Ssssshhh!

Woo-jin’s chilling blade slid toward Chief Kim’s side—but then, out of nowhere, another weapon appeared in Kim’s left hand.

A crescent-shaped scimitar.

With a reverse pivot, Chief Kim swung the blue-tinged scimitar at Woo-jin, who was attacking from the blind spot.

BOOOM!

Their weapons clashed with a powerful shockwave.

Whoooosh!

Both men were blasted backward simultaneously.

Woo-jin held the Goblin Sword in a traditional ready stance, while Chief Kim once again stood empty-handed.

That’s when Woo-jin understood what his swordsmanship truly was.

‘Quickdraw isn’t his main technique. He can instantly switch weapons, attacking from any angle—a style that builds an impenetrable defense, waiting to counter.’

Approaching carelessly would only lead to Woo-jin falling into a counterattack trap.

Chief Kim stood still, arms relaxed at his sides. Though he appeared empty-handed, the mana barrier surrounding him meant he could pull out a weapon at any moment.

He’d used a sword and scimitar so far—but who knew what other weapons his inventory held?

It was impossible to predict the next form his attack would take.

Unlike the Heavenly Sword House’s usual pressure-based swordsmanship, which overwhelmed foes with aura and aggression—Chief Kim’s style was something entirely different.

The fact that he was allowed to wield it within the Heavenly Sword House meant that his strength had been recognized.

‘This isn’t a B-rank. He’s an A-rank Hunter.’

A powerful fighter with his own title—strong enough to lead a clan.

It made Woo-jin wonder why such a man had spent the last eight years cleaning up after him.

Looking at the upright Chief Kim, Woo-jin realized that simple attacks wouldn’t cut it.

“Haa…”

He calmed his breath, Goblin Sword in hand.

Woo-jin had made up his mind to show Kim his true power.

After all, this man might just become his most trusted subordinate.

He began drawing genuine qi from within—

RUMMMMBLE—!

The energy of two complete meridian cycles surged through Cheon Woo-jin’s body, and his entire aura shifted dramatically.

Even Chief Kim, who had already activated his mana barrier, immediately sensed the change.

“The barrier’s warping…”

The concentric rings of energy that made up his defensive field began to distort under the pressure of Woo-jin’s aura. They could no longer maintain their shape.

That was when Woo-jin stepped forward—or so it seemed.

Fwoosh!

In an instant, the gap between them vanished as Woo-jin exploded forward.

His sword, now charged with inner energy, came crashing down from above toward Chief Kim.

Bam!

Chief Kim drew two short swords, one in each hand, and crossed them to block the attack.

But that had been a mistake.

Cheon Woo-jin’s Force-Penetrating Blade—infused with inner energy—wasn’t something that could be blocked with mere blades.

Cheon Family Sword Art: Heavy Blade Form – Iron Boulder.

BOOOOM!

Chief Kim was blasted backward as if struck by a cannonball.

He had already swapped weapons—now wielding a whip-like sword—but his eyes betrayed his shock.

‘He hasn’t even released aura—how can it hit this hard?’

Even without aura, Woo-jin’s strikes were brimming with overwhelming force.

Woo-jin launched forward again, sword flashing down in a vertical strike aimed to split Kim in two.

KRAKAKAKAKAK!

The sheer weight and speed of the attack could cleave a man in half.

Kim barely rolled aside in time and countered by swinging his whip sword, trying to wrap Woo-jin’s arm and go for a vital spot.

Whiirrrrrr!

The whip sword slithered around Woo-jin’s arm like a snake.

But the instant it coiled around him, Chief Kim felt a jolt of danger.

His instincts screamed at him—and he immediately recalled the weapon to his inventory.

At that very moment—

CRACKLE!

Golden lightning exploded across Woo-jin’s body.

ZzzzZZZTTT!

Chief Kim leapt backward just in time to dodge it.

Bam!

He narrowly avoided the electric blast, cold sweat running down his back.

‘Lightning force…?’

Had he hesitated even a second longer, the lightning would have struck him—and the damage would’ve been severe.

‘At that level… it might’ve done more than just ‘damage.’’

Kim had once sparred with a paladin from Valiant Thunder Ridge, who used much weaker lightning. Even then, it had numbed his body and nearly made him drop his weapon.

If someone took Woo-jin’s full lightning strike head-on—even a Hunter would likely lose consciousness.

CRACKLE!

Golden lightning wreathed Woo-jin’s entire body. Chief Kim watched solemnly before finally speaking.

“You’ve surprised me again, Young Master.”

He’d already known Woo-jin had an incredible affinity for swordsmanship—but to see him wield lightning on top of that?

As if on cue, the lightning began to subside.

Then Woo-jin raised his sword and calmly asked, “Chief Kim. Have you made your decision yet?”

Chief Kim didn’t answer right away.

He was still caught at a crossroads—whether or not to accept Woo-jin.

Seeing this, Woo-jin gave a small nod.

“Very well. Allow me to help you decide.”

He lifted his sword—and began slowly infusing it with genuine energy.

KIIIIIIIIINNG—!

A sharp hum rang out.

But this time, it wasn’t just a vibration. It was as if the blade had a soul—resonating with Woo-jin, howling with him.

“The sword… is alive?”

Chief Kim had seen countless knights within the Heavenly Sword House, yet he’d never felt this from anyone before.

Then, a haze—like a shimmering mirage—began to rise from Woo-jin’s sword.

At first, Kim assumed it was an aura.

But something was off.

The wisps of energy converged, wrapping around the sword—covering it in a translucent layer.

It was distinctly different from aura, which usually condensed into a dense, colored glow.

Before he realized it, Chief Kim found himself staring, mesmerized by the ethereal beauty of Woo-jin’s sword force.

“Chief Kim.”

Woo-jin’s voice jolted him back to reality.

The sword force was now pointed straight at him.

“Defend yourself with everything you’ve got.”

Then—

BOOM!

Woo-jin stepped forward and unleashed the strike, fully infused with sword force.

Cheon Family Sword Art: Swift Blade Form – Righteous Wind.

WHOOOSH!

The sword force extended, slicing through the air as it surged toward Kim like a beam of light.

Stunned by its brilliance, Chief Kim forgot to breathe.

Even his hands froze.

He’d drawn weapons from his inventory thousands of times.

But now, as this overwhelming sword force bore down on him—he couldn’t decide which weapon to summon.

Instinctively, he drew the weapon he used most often.

BAM!

He summoned a longsword and forced his frozen limbs to move, pouring mana into the blade.

RUUUUUUMMMBLE!

Brilliant aura erupted from Kim’s sword.

His aura and Woo-jin’s sword force collided in a deafening crash—

BOOOOOM!

The shockwave rocked the entire training hall.

RUMMMMMMBLE!

As the dust cleared, Chief Kim emerged, pushed far back by the impact.

His special Hunter suit—made from durable materials—was torn in several places. The sword he held was snapped in half.

He stood there, stunned.

Woo-jin approached.

“So? What’s your answer?”

Finally snapping back to his senses, Chief Kim returned the broken sword to his inventory—then dropped to a respectful bow.

“I, Kim San, Knight of Ten Thousand Blades—acknowledge you as my Master.”
