Chapter: 07

After completing the Sword Saint’s trial, Cheon Woo-jin returned to the annex and threw himself into nonstop training, day and night.

Seated in the center of the training hall, he focused on regulating his breath and refining his internal energy.

Tssssss…

With each breath, energy flowed into his body, then exhaled back out.

Not only was his internal energy increased, but traces of unrefined energy still lingered in his bloodstream.

Ideally, he would convert all of it into internal energy—but the martial art of Heavenly Combat Manual emphasized balance between the body, mind, and energy.

If he rushed too quickly in building internal energy alone, he risked falling into Energy Deviation —a state of dangerous inner imbalance.

“Hooo...”

After a deep breath, Woo-jin opened his eyes wide.

His internal energy remained at the same level, but each day his body was undergoing visible change.

His height and build had grown noticeably, and the once sickly, pretty-boy features of his face now held distinct masculinity.

As a result, Woo-jin now possessed an almost otherworldly appearance—an impossible blend of elegance and raw masculine charisma.

Even in his frailty, his looks had drawn whispers, but now servants who passed by would literally hold their breath upon seeing him.

Rising from his spot, Woo-jin stretched his stiffened limbs.

His muscles weren’t just solid—they were elastic and graceful.

With every round of training, his body grew stronger with no resistance. Woo-jin couldn’t help but be amazed.

“This is a body made for training.”

After stretching, Woo-jin walked to one side of the hall, picked up a remote, and pressed a switch.

The floor opened, and a screen rose up.

The camera mounted on top scanned Woo-jin’s iris and displayed the parts of the clan’s internal database he had permission to access.

“Heavenly Sword House’s Swordsmanship—Advanced Forms.”

The clan’s signature sword style, Cheon Family Swordsmanship, branches into advanced forms once the basics are mastered. These were divided into three main paths:

Swift Sword Form– emphasizing speed

Heavy Sword Form– emphasizing weight and power

Dark Sword Form– emphasizing stealth and subtlety

Most sword wielders in the Heavenly Sword House choose either the swift or heavy form.

But Woo-jin had a different thought.

“The footwork the Sword Saint showed me—that was the gait of an assassin.”

The Dark Sword Form had fallen out of use, with hardly anyone in the clan bothering to learn it anymore.

But precisely because of that, Woo-jin suspected it might hold the true foundation of Cheon Family Swordsmanship.

And so, he made an entirely different choice.

“I’ll master all three: swift, heavy, and dark forms.”

Even mastering one of them was an incredible challenge.

Failure to properly learn them would mean certain death at the hands of the Sword Saint.

But Woo-jin didn’t intend to back down.

He was determined to master all forms completely—and pass the Sword Saint’s next trial.

“Only by doing so will I be allowed into the Trial Dungeon. If I clear it, I’ll be rewarded by raising my Awakening ability by a full tier.”

Woo-jin’s Heavenly Martial Physique was an SS-grade physique.

If he could raise it to SSS-grade, his growth would accelerate to unimaginable levels.

That was why he willingly risked his life and requested a second trial from the Sword Saint.

The reason Woo-jin was driving himself this hard—walking a tightrope day after day—was for one reason:

“Wait for me, Baek Do-jin. I’m coming for you.”

Suppressing his seething rage toward Baek Do-jin, Woo-jin refocused on the screen.

A 3D model of a swordsman demonstrated each move of the sword style, with a voiceover explaining every motion.

“Learning the Heavenly Combat Manual by deciphering ancient scripts was one thing… but this is on another level.”

Even twenty years ago, when he'd learned other sword styles, he had relied on video references.

But now, as a third-generation Hunter, the training system had advanced significantly.

When the video ended, the ceiling opened and a camera-like device descended.

Fssshhh!

The lens projected an image, and the virtual swordsman he had just seen appeared in holographic form before him.

Woo-jin mirrored the hologram’s movements exactly.

Whoosh!

Incredibly, Woo-jin matched the virtual swordsman’s breathing, blade angles, footwork, and center of gravity perfectly.

Whoosh!

He even surpassed the hologram’s demonstration speed—executing the entire set of Cheon Family Sword techniques from start to finish on his own.

Slaaaash!

The final strike sliced the air, echoing powerfully through the entire training hall.

Thanks to his Heavenly Martial Physique, Woo-jin had achieved the unthinkable: he learned the Swift, Heavy, and Dark Sword Forms all at once.

“But that alone isn’t enough.”

To truly master Cheon Family Swordsmanship, it wasn’t enough to replicate the movements.

The core of the style was channeling mana into the blade—that was what made it true.

But here was the problem:

“I don’t have a mana core.”

As a Weapon Mastery class holder, Woo-jin cultivated internal energy in his energy core, not mana.

Awakened beings typically gather mana in their hearts, spinning it into a vortex—known as the mana core.

The Heavenly Sword House’s swordsmen likewise generate mana via their cores and channel it into their blades to produce aura.

Only Hunters who can focus this materialized mana (aura) into a weapon are officially recognized as Knights by the Hunter Association.

Among all Hunter clans and guilds, the Heavenly Sword House boasts the largest number of Knights.

Their sword art is famed for being the most optimized technique for producing aura.

But Woo-jin, having no mana core and only an energy core full of internal energy, couldn’t use the conventional method.

“I’ll have to test the difference between internal energy and mana for myself.”

Gripping his sword, Woo-jin exhaled and slowly summoned his energy.

As his internal energy—long dormant in his energy core—rushed through his meridians, he felt every muscle come alive.

Using incantations from Heavenly Combat Manual, he guided his true energy and adapted the Cheon Family’s mana-handling methods to concentrate that energy into his blade.

Wuuuuuuummm—

As soon as Cheon Woo-jin channeled the true energy) through his meridians and focused it into his sword, the blade began to vibrate violently.

“Hmm?”

The extreme trembling made it nearly impossible to grip the weapon—something was clearly off.

Had the blade been made of regular steel instead of Orichalcum, it would have shattered instantly.

In theory, when mana is drawn from a mana core and concentrated into a blade through mana manipulation techniques, it becomes visible in the form of Aura. This materialized energy field—that’s how aura is generated.

Woo-jin had applied similar methods using internal energy, but instead of forming a visible energy field, the sword simply shook uncontrollably.

“Mana and internal energy operate in completely different ways.”

He gradually reduced the amount of true energy flowing into the sword.

Wuuuuung—

Though the blade still vibrated, it was now significantly more stable.

Watching the softly humming weapon, Woo-jin steadied his breath.

In theory, the energy should externalize and become material, but the true energy remained confined within the sword.

Frustrated, Woo-jin slashed the blade.

And then—something unexpected happened.

CRAAACK!

With just a light swing, the sword’s vibration caved in the wall.

“Huh?”

The training hall’s walls were made of mana-absorbing material, built specifically for Hunters. Even if struck by aura, they were designed to withstand serious damage—yet Woo-jin’s one swing had gouged the wall deeply.

“What the hell?”

He reduced the energy flow further, fully stabilizing the sword before trying again.

Shaaak—

The sword left a clean, sharp mark on the wall.

“Well, would you look at that...”

He recalled the first movement the Sword Saint had instructed him to learn: the silent, assassin-like footwork.

Woo-jin took a step back, regulated his breathing, and activated Ghost Shadow Step as he swung toward the wall.

Cheon Family Swordsmanship – Swift Sword Form

"Rising Wind"

ShaaAAAK!

His blade sliced through the air so cleanly that it left a long scar on the wall, as if it had passed through without a trace.

There had been no sound—no presence—it was impossible to tell when he had even made the strike.

It wasn’t just mimicking the outer form anymore—he was beginning to grasp the deeper meaning behind the sword technique.

Only now could he sense the true power of the Cheon Family Swordsmanship.

“Hahahaha!”

Laughing aloud, Woo-jin pulled up his internal energy and unfolded Ghost Shadow Step again.

Ssshhhhh—

His body floated into the air, stepping across the walls and ceiling of the training hall as he danced through space with his sword.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Silent, deadly sword strikes carved clean marks all across the hall.

From above, Woo-jin slashed horizontally, vertically, stabbed forward, and cut diagonally—executing every form of Cheon Family Swordsmanship with perfection.

“So this is the Cheon Family Swordsmanship…”

It was more captivating than any sword art he had studied in his previous life.

The Swift Sword Form that strikes before the enemy even attacks.

The Heavy Sword Form, unyielding and grounded, blocking all offense.

The Dark Sword Form, striking from beyond perception to fell foes in an instant.

Woo-jin realized these three weren’t separate styles.

They were interwoven—a singular flow.

And as he grasped that essence, the sword style flowed through him like water.

Whoooosh—

Lost in his trance, Woo-jin instinctively understood how to infuse internal energy into every slash of the Cheon Family Swordsmanship.

“Combine the incantations of the Heavenly Combat Manual with the core essence of the Cheon Family Swordsmanship. Breathe energy into every movement.”

By merging the body of Cheon Family Swordsmanship with the energy of Heavenly Combat Manual, he etched the sword into his very soul.

Sword and self became one. He now understood the blade’s true intention.

This was Unity of Sword and Body—a transcendental realm.

Wuuuuuuung—

Woo-jin’s body, still immersed in that state, began to resonate violently.

The energy within him slowly concentrated into the sword, and then, transformation began.

Wuuuuuung—

A faint shimmer rose from the blade, gradually solidifying into a clear, transparent glow that enveloped the edge.

It was subtle—hard to see at a glance—but unmistakably shaped, like the blade itself had extended.

Whooooosh!

Woo-jin swung the materialized blade at the wall.

The extended edge shot out like a flash—and cleaved clean through the target.

CRAAAACK!

Not a scratch appeared on the surrounding walls—only where Woo-jin had aimed did a perfect cut, of uniform depth, remain.

This was a technique that could only be achieved by one who had attained Unity of Sword and Body.

It was the ultimate art: Sword Energy.

And Woo-jin had reached this supreme realm alone.

As he returned to awareness, a message appeared before his eyes:

[You have completely mastered the Cheon Family Swordsmanship.]

[Due to the influence of Heavenly Combat Manual and Heavenly Martial Physique, the technique is evolving.]

[Cheon Family Swordsmanship has evolved into Cheon Family Sword Art.]

[Registering Cheon Family Sword Art as a skill.]

He had acquired a new skill.

Woo-jin had succeeded in transforming the Heavenly Sword House’s sword technique into a full-fledged martial art.

Clack.

He slid his sword back into its sheath and examined the scar he had left in the wall.

“To think this was even possible…”

Unlike the crater caused by the shockwave earlier, the cuts from his Sword Energy were clean—flawless.

They were evidence that energy had been fully condensed and released with precise intent.

At last, Woo-jin understood why he hadn’t been able to produce aura before.

“Aura is formed by wrapping condensed mana around the blade, turning it into a visible force. Sword Energy is different—it only manifests when you attain Unity of Sword and Body.”

Aura could be produced by anyone with enough mana and natural talent, even without deep understanding.

But Sword Energy required true enlightenment of the sword—it could never be achieved otherwise.

And now, Woo-jin realized why he hadn’t become a swordsman class—but a Weapon Mastery instead.

Looking at the scar he had carved into the wall, he fell into deep thought.

“Even this isn’t enough.”

He planned to build his own sword style, using the Cheon Family Sword Art as a foundation.

Just as Shadowless Step had evolved into Ghost Shadow Step, he believed this art too could evolve beyond its origins.

But to do that, he needed something—a true martial arts manual, unearthed from a dungeon.

After pondering a moment, Woo-jin used the training hall’s intercom to summon Chief Kim.

“You called, Young Master?”

As always, Kim appeared in his usual suit and sunglasses.

Woo-jin looked at him and spoke.

“Please take me to Jeongseon.”

Kim’s eyes widened beneath his sunglasses.

“You mean Jeongseon in Gangwon Province?”

Once famous for its casinos decades ago, Jeongseon was now home to the largest auction house and underground arena in the country.

Woo-jin nodded as if he had anticipated the reaction.

“Yes. There’s something I need to retrieve from there.”

During his days as a Black Agent, Woo-jin had hidden a secret vault in Jeongseon.

And it was time to reclaim it.
