Chapter 20 - Private Attack! (1)

In the military, handover procedures are a delicate matter.

It’s the process of transferring all responsibilities and authority from the previous officer to the new officer.

If the former officer had engaged in shady business, and the new officer unknowingly inherits the mess, guess who’s held accountable when it all comes to light?

That’s right—the new guy.

This is why everyone in the military takes handover procedures very seriously.

When it involves transferring responsibilities between different units, things get even messier.

“Wait, so you’re telling me that since you can’t issue new supplies, we have to hand ours over?”

“That’s how it works! You’re moving to a new unit, so they’ll supply you there. Your current supplies stay with us.”

“Does that sound even remotely fair to you?! How are we supposed to make up for the missing gear?!”

Early that morning, a logistics officer arrived to confiscate every piece of issued gear from Clyden’s platoon.

Military supplies were everything to a soldier.

The standard-issue gear was cheap and barely functional, but having something was always better than nothing.

“No! Over my dead body! If you want this stuff, go fight with Special Operations Command for it!”

Clyden threw himself onto the supply pile, arms stretched wide in defiance.

Extra gear was always a blessing, and no matter how many times they promised new equipment.

Clyden had zero intention of giving up what they already had.

After a heated struggle, the logistics officer grumbled in frustration and eventually stormed off.

Just as Clyden let out a sigh of relief, another voice rang out—

“Sergeant, we’re here to collect your issued weapons and armor.”

“Excuse me?”

“The Special Forces will issue your new gear. Your current equipment needs to be returned.”

“…You’re joking.”

When he realized they were dead serious, Clyden erupted.

“You expect soldiers to just hand over their weapons and armor?! ”

“No exceptions. Regulations are clear—”

“No! I can’t give it to you! Not until I get dirt in my eyes!”

The platoon members barely managed to coax the weapons officer who was trying to throw real dirt at Clyden and sent him away.

Though Clyden was infamous as the Mad Dog of Southgate, weapon officers had their battles to fight.

A shortage of gear meant administrative hell, and the ones who suffered the most were Weapon officers.

Missing inventory - Angry officers - Endless paperwork.

So, they fought tooth and nail to avoid that nightmare.

After the weapons officer left, Clyden finally thought he’d get some peace—

Until yet another visitor arrived.

“Sergeant Clyden? We’re here from Personnel.”

That was the final straw.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. If you were gonna come, why didn’t you all show up at same time?!”

His rage echoed through the entire base as he squared up against yet another bureaucratic nightmare.

“Fine! Let’s see who breaks first!”
