Chapter 3: Maybe I’ve Become a Bit Arrogant

--

“Since when did you become so beautiful, Ilraim?”

“…What?”

--

“Ah… I’m really relieved.”

At least this drama’s characters and plot were still intact and progressing normally.

For a moment, I wondered if that damned goddess had thrown me into some kind of hell designed by the worst kind of otaku-hating mind.

I was briefly horrified, almost ready to declare war on that detestable goddess.

But then, realizing that the only thing that had changed was physical capabilities, I quickly felt reassured.

I had almost gone full ‘you die, I die’ mode.

The idea of turning into a fallen hero and becoming the Demon King after a fateful incident flashed before my eyes.

But on some level, I decided to accept this as nothing more than a cliché otaku plot twist.

‘Humans inherently possess a bit of mana, but women have a higher mana affinity, huh?’

Even ordinary people had more mana than hunters, and apparently, because of that, women in this world were physically stronger than men.

As a result, it seemed that women were generally expected to handle physically demanding labor in society.

Though, of course, it was only in terms of physical labor.

Fortunately, not everything in this world had been reversed.

The characters, plots, and societal roles from the creative works I knew hadn’t been completely flipped, which was a genuine relief.

Though it might seem obvious, adapting to this new world over the past few days had been pretty rough.

“Hm, since the gender roles are reversed, does that mean it’s more common for women to confess first?”

It took quite a while to recalibrate my sense of what was considered normal.

‘They really mixed everything together, huh.’

A hunter setting, a boisterous youth academy, and now gender role reversal on top of it all.

And this is supposed to be the work of a ‘guardian of order and causality’?

That so-called sacred goddess felt more like some chaotic mongrel licking the bottom of a garbage bin.

[‘Order and Causality’ protests that such words are hurtful and unfair.]

[(ㅁ_ㅠ)]

What was she so upset about?

I mean, she’d already changed so much—this was practically a different planet altogether, save for the same modern setting and place names.

‘She probably just picked a world that seemed moderately decent rather than building one tailored to me.’

Still, what kind of world is this?

Luckily, it wasn’t too hard to adjust, since the fundamentals of common sense hadn’t changed completely.

In this world, men cared more about their appearance, while it was natural for women to take the lead.

As long as I kept that in mind, I could manage to live without too much trouble.

‘Roughly a 50/50 split, huh.’

About half of the movies, dramas, and comics I used to watch were still the same.

But occasionally, something weird and nonsensical would pop up, throwing me off.

Then again, some works just had a fresh twist on the familiar, making them surprisingly enjoyable.

In a way, the diversity made things more interesting.

Although many of the traditionally male roles had been swapped with female ones,

the reversal ratio seemed to settle around 7:3 or 6:4, keeping things relatively balanced, considering the physical differences.

──Girlvengers, Assemble.

Yeah, this was still way better than the nightmare scenario I initially imagined.

‘Ugh, even thinking about that again gives me a headache…’

Maybe seeing the most extreme examples right away helped me build mental immunity.

Still, it was a bit much.

‘Whatever this goddess did, I’d better brace myself.’

The goddess had certainly done her part in lowering my expectations for this world.

If I wanted to avoid being caught off guard by the next surprise, I just had to expect nothing.

Just like when I spent twenty years fighting as a hero without ever dreaming of romance.

[‘Order and Causality’ confidently declares that this time, you can truly trust her.]

[(ㅁ_<)]

“Why do you keep sending emoticons instead of just talking?”

[‘Order and Causality’ sniffles, claiming that the frequency mismatch with this world prevents her from communicating properly.]

“Are you for real, goddess…”

I lowered my expectations once again.

I couldn’t expect fictional characters and real people to be perfectly interchangeable,

but assuming a similar ratio of random events would probably help me stay level-headed.

[Seoul Academy of Supernatural Abilities]

[Accepted]

[Shin Yuseong]

“…I can do this, right?”

Yeah.

After all, before I was summoned to that other world, I was just a regular high school student.

I should just think of it as coming back from a twenty-year-long summer break.

‘Damn it, just going to school is going to be awkward enough, but now it’s some next-level superhuman academy?’

It felt like heading to a blind date for the first time.

For some reason, I was both excited and anxious.

As I stared at the admission documents and schedule that had been delivered to my house,

I ran countless mental simulations.

Seoul Academy of Supernatural Abilities.

This academy, which trained newly awakened twenty-year-olds, was one of the most prestigious institutions in not only South Korea but the entire world.

Despite the presence of elite academies abroad, it was considered so prestigious that sending international students to it was completely normal.

The academy was located on such a vast campus that the city had designated it as a special autonomous district.

Its faculty included even high-ranker S-class hunters, making it a truly elite institution.

With a curriculum refined over decades through practical experience, it had a proven track record of producing graduates ready for the field.

The tuition fees were significantly high, but aside from that, the academy itself was almost surreal in its existence.

It was practically a self-governing city dedicated entirely to training prospective hunters.

Such extensive support also meant that passing the entrance exam was extremely difficult.

The past academic performance and credentials of successful candidates were so impressive that they deserved applause.

‘This year feels even more exceptional than usual.’

Shin Arin, who had been appointed as the first-year professor this year, closely observed the students walking through the academy gates.

When mana becomes highly refined, not only does the level of awakened abilities increase, but the perception of the surroundings and opponents also reaches a different dimension.

Standing with her hands behind her back in the faculty office, she could tell at a glance how much training the students had undergone and whether they had formidable personalities.

It was a type of hypersensitivity.

A skill honed through countless real battles and the ability to read opponents’ intentions.

“There are quite a few who would have been top-tier last year.”

It was a cliché expression, but seeing such a luxurious lineup inevitably reminded her of the term “golden generation.”

Heirs of prestigious families, successors of mystical martial sects, rare spirit holders, and dark horses whose origins were difficult to discern.

From the perspective of someone about to teach them, it was an irresistible treasure trove.

‘As always, there are far more women.’

Although she hadn’t been teaching for long, she was already used to the overwhelming number of female students in this field.

She wasn’t surprised by the female-dominated campus.

Nor was she disappointed.

After all, it had been cross-verified through years of both academic research and real-world experience that it was extremely difficult for men’s combat prowess to reach the level of women’s.

“Hmm?”

That was why, when she spotted a male freshman walking in with an aura so difficult to gauge, Shin Arin’s eyes widened.

As someone at a high level herself, she should have been able to roughly measure his skills—but this time, she couldn’t.

Even from a distance, his presence felt overwhelming.

Rather than exuding an explosive surge of mana, he emanated the aura of someone who had conquered nations.

‘He’s going to be popular.’

Most of all, he was handsome.

* * *

Despite having full control over my physical condition, I found it hard to sleep the night before, like an elementary school kid excited for a theme park trip.

Though I knew I needed to sleep, my mind was filled with a whirlwind of thoughts about how to have a successful college life.

The perfect blend of anticipation and anxiety kept my brain circuits running at full capacity.

Out of restlessness, I even spent half the night browsing the internet for college life tips.

‘Though the Special Ability Academy is such a unique case, online advice probably won’t be all that helpful.’

Still, by the time I finally drifted off, I had prepared for hundreds of potential scenarios, giving me confidence that I wouldn’t be easily flustered.

‘Of course, getting a love letter on the first day only happens in manga, not real life.’

Even if the world had changed somewhat, unless I caused a major incident on my first day, nothing particularly dramatic was likely to happen.

I expected it to be a mundane day—listening to the syllabus, cautiously observing the atmosphere, and then quietly slipping away.

My heart was beating fast with excitement, but that was my expectation.

Yet...

“Wow.”

“What the hell…?”

“He doesn’t look human.”

For some reason, everyone was staring at me.

But I hadn’t done anything yet.

I was simply walking across the campus quietly, wearing a textbook-perfect campus look I found online, making sure not to draw any attention.

However, I kept hearing voices and felt more and more gazes fixed on me.

Had I unknowingly done something conspicuous?

Or was I being teased with a “there goes your boyfriend” vibe?

‘Actually, I thought I was blending in better than before.’

The damn goddess had even mentioned giving me a visual buff to make me look like a handsome college student.

Was it all a lie?

The whole situation made me feel like the protagonist of some Truman Show-esque campus prank.

Before I could hear any “your boyfriend is passing by” comments, I instinctively reduced my presence.

I minimized my sensory range and even suppressed my biological presence.

[‘The Guardian of Order and Causality’ suddenly springs up, shouting not to be misunderstood.]

Though I didn’t know what was going on, I realized something had gone wrong and decided to evade the situation.

‘…Ah, peaceful at last.’

Feeling the gazes finally scatter, I let out a sigh of relief.

A strong man in a world where they were rare—perhaps I had become a bit too complacent.

[‘The Guardian of Order and Causality’ deeply reflects on her grave mistake.]

[(ㅠ_ㅠ)]

[She laments that the hero’s romantic sensibilities have deteriorated from hanging around with middle-aged men for too long.]

And just now, I had another realization.

You should only take advice from experts.

I resolved to ignore the goddess’s romantic tips, as she had been single far longer than I had.

[The goddess glares furiously and shouts...]

Hmm, time to head out again.
